It is an old farmhouse over 200 years old with views of the countryside and at certain times, the Pyrenees. It is one of 3 houses on a hillside surrounded by fields and vineyards. The village of Madiran is 10 minutes away. There is a carport and room for visitors’ cars to park, and a raised terrace at the front in full sun with a smaller terrace in the shade at the back. There is access from the kitchen to a large barn which also has doors to a large outhouse which is open to the front and back. We have a table tennis table and dart board here. It is also used to store wood from our woodland which we burn on the living room fire. The front door opens directly into the kitchen, which is large enough for a dining table. Downstairs the floors are the original terracotta tiles. Upstairs the floors are wood or cork tiled. Access is by a small minor road which only serves the houses and agricultural land. You can drive by motorway from Calais to within 30 minutes from the house, and Lourdes and Pau airports have budget airlines direct to several UK airports (free parking at Lourdes). Bordeaux and Toulouse are served by other airlines direct from Britain. Local people are welcoming to foreigners and Saint Lanne village council has a British councillor to help residents whose French is not fluent. We have excellent local tradesmen. Tarbes has a good Hospital (it serves Lourdes as well) and there are local doctors and vets in most villages. One neighbour is a typical French smallholder with cows, poultry, fruit and maize and his own vineyard. There is mains electricity but no gas so cooking is by calor gas, available at the supermarket. We love it and so do our children and grandchildren. Only old age forces us to sell. Offers considered.
