The flat is situated in a semi-rural location, on a hill, overlooking the sea, with olive trees and vines nearby. It is on the top floor of a 3-storey building. It is spacious and comprises a lounge, kitchen, three bedrooms and two bathrooms (no bath) and another bedroom in the small basement flat, which houses a similar bathroom. A garage is also part of the property. Further parking is available on the complex and just outside the building.
The flat benefits from special sliding mosquito- proof doors and windows, which means that a cool draft keeps the bedrooms comfortable and insect- free at night. In the basement flat there is also a large water tank, which ensures that the flat is never short of water. Also, on hot summer's days, the back balconies get a cool breeze in the afternoon.
At present the outside of the building needs some attention, but work is being planned to restore it to its former glory soon..
There are several balconies, with amazing views of the Adriatic sea on one side and the Appennines mountains on the other. In fact the two highest peaks of the Appennines, the Maiella and the Gran Sasso, are clearly visible from the flat, often providing an incredible spectacle of fantastic sunsets. Also, the skiing pistes can be reached very easily in less than 1 hour in the winter and in the summer the panoramic views from the Blockaus on the Maiella are stunning.
The nearest sandy beach, Lido Riccio, is only 10 minutes walking distance down the hill and is very popular with the very friendly inhabitants of Ortona, the nearest small town. Lots of other villages and towns, mostly perched on hills, can be easily reached by local transport or car. The Abruzzo National Park, with brown bears and wolves living in the wild and amazing scenery, is about 40 minutes drive away.
The location of the flat is ideal for anyone who wants to experience the local culture and partake in the laid-back lifestyle of the local people. You will be spoilt for choice, as over the summer months
( June-August), there is a busy schedule of free open-air concerts and local folk festivals, dedicated to the appreciation of regional food and wines, which can be purchased for very little. There is even a festival near-by dedicated to snakes, when the local kids display the adders they have managed to catch for the occasion.
The nearest airport is only about 40 minutes away, in Pescara. Ryanair flies to Pescara daily from Stansted.
Most of the contents is included in the price, except for the paintings on the walls and one or two minor items. The area of the property is approximately 105 square meters.
Our family has spent many happy holidays in the flat over the 30 years we owned it and we miss it already. I am only selling the flat because of ill health and advancing years.
