Kelfalonia (capital Argostoli), is the largest Ionian island at 935 sq. km but it has about a quarter of the population of Corfu, i.e. under 40,000 inhabitants. Kefalonia enjoyed a boom after the bestseller Captain Corelli's Mandolin book and the Holywood film that followed it. It provoked an inrush of foreigners wanting to buy property on the Island. There are other reasons besides speculative ones, that make Cephalonia a serious consideration: it is a beautiful island with spectacular mountains including the Ainos range, forests of pine and cypress, olive groves, sheer cliffs, hidden coves and a beach (Myrtos) that has been voted one of the top 10 in the world.
