Position for SatNav: N51deg45'03 W9deg25'43. The house is located on a quiet lane on the side of the Ouvane River valley, off the road from Ballylickey to Coomhola Bridge. The main coast road is about two miles away at Ballylickey, and the nearest beach is 5 minutes drive away, as are a local filling station and well-stocked supermarket. Bantry, which, in common with the general area, still has a thriving and prosperous air in spite of the current financial climate (and with no evidence of the forlorn part-completed new developments which seem to be the current image of Ireland!), is the local centre, and is 10-12 minutes; drive away. It has a wide variety of shops, schools, a library, a three screen cinema, as well as many bars, cafes, restaurants and two large hotels, both with leisure centres/swimming pools.. There are doctors' and dentists' surgeries, and an efficient and friendly local hospital. Bantry has a lively cultural scene, with regular concerts arranged by West Cork Music, Traditional and Chamber Music festivals and a Literary Festival. There are also two golf courses (10 and 15 minutes' drive) and a sailing club.
Glengarriff, twenty minutes' drive away in the opposite direction, also has a lively golf club, several bars and restaurants (many with evening music, which is also a feature of several of the Bantry bars) and there are plenty of local clubs and societies, including a thriving drama group.
