Mattinata is a charming village with distinctive white Mediterranean houses forming the shape of a butterfly. The village lies in the center of a verdant plain covered in olive groves surrounded by woods and extending to the coast, within the Gargano National Park.
Mattinata has a strong tourist vocation due to its proximity to places of architectural, landscape and cultural interest such as Vieste, Monte Sant'Angelo, Monte Saraceno, Umbra Forest, San Giovanni Rotondo and the whole Gargano area, as well as the rest of Puglia.
The town is renowned for its beautiful coves with white cliffs, caves and breathtaking beaches surrounded by pine groves. Baia delle Zagare (in photos) is one of the most beautiful and exclusive beaches of Gargano for its two characteristic white rock stacks. One of the two stacks has the shape of an arch and swimming underneath it is believed to bring good luck!
