The Atlantic coast with its long white beaches, is only a 50 minute drive away. and there is plenty of scope for hiking, horse riding, boating, swimming, and even skiing on the Serra da Estrela mountains.
Mountains, rivers, pine and eucalyptus forests are abundant in this beautiful, unspoilt area, and the scenery is breathtaking. There are many fluvial (or river) beaches for cooling off in fresh water, and most have restaurants and cafes/bars alongside.
