Tortosa Information

Tortosa sits on both sides of the river Ebro with east to west views of the nearby mountains. It's population is approximately 44,000 and there are many nationalities living here. It is a Catalan town steeped in history with its own Cathedral and historic buildings. There are a diversity of shops and businesses, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Rice is grown on the nearby Delta Ebro and contributes to approximately 80% of rice consumed in Spain. The people are very welcoming and there are free Catalan classes operating throughout the year for new arrivals to the region. Tortosa appears smaller than it is when you first arrive but don't be deceived, many shops are tucked away in the back streets or on the other side of the river. Traditional festivals are held here throughout the year, and really shouldn't be missed.
