Istanbul is Turkey s most vibrant and cosmopolitan city. It is also its most crowded, with much of the population growth having taken place over the last 15 years as the problems in the east persuaded many families to move to the city in search of a better life. It is still possible to find reasonably cheap and historically interesting houses for sale in areas like Fener and Balat along the shores of the Golden Horn.
